Why a Market for Fetuses is an Abortionist's Dream The market for fetal tissue turns a liability -- dead fetuses -- into an asset. Let's take a look at how much trouble all those fetuses were causing before abortionists found out they could sell them. Harold Hoke was investigated for dumping fetuses and medical waste at Colwick Towers dumpster summer of 1992. Hoke claimed that his Hallmark Clinic sent such material out through a disposal firm, but the firm's records showed no materials received from Hoke for 2 months. "On August 12 and August 22, a Charlotte Observer reporter saw a considerable amount of fetal tissue removed from the dumpster adjacent to the clinic. The remains, deposited in 10 to 15 large plastic trash bags, included readily identifiable body parts. Among them were a left forearm and hand, a left leg and foot, a right forearm and hand, part of a right foot, and a spinal column and rib cage. In several cases the remains had been dumped in trash bags along with ordinary garbage: coffee grounds, cigarette butts and remnants of chicken dinners." Hoke was quoted as responding, "I don't care what you saw. If you saw a little green monster there, somebody else put it there." Such dumping would be in violation of state law requiring certain packaging and incineration of such materials. Abortionist P. Scott Ricke was investigated by police when fetal remains were found in the trash receptacle of an apartment complex; such disposal violated state health department regulations and state law. Abortionist Sidney Knight got in trouble when the Department of Public Works reported that fetuses were disposed of by grinding them and flushing them into the sanitary sewer system. Dr. Ismail Elguindi got in trouble with the medical board when fetal parts were found in a trash container outside his clinic on April 8, 1989. Autopsy reports on the fetuses say: "FETUS #1: Parts of a fetus of indeterminate sex include a skull cap, both arms total with scapula intact, the entire vertebral column with a portion of rib cage attached, the pelvic girdle, the left femur, and both lower legs with feet attached. A kidney, the tongue, and one eye was also retrieved. Gestational age was estimated at 4 months, perhaps very slightly greater, estimated on length of long bones. Measurements are as follows: femur 28 mm. ...foot length 18 mm. ... hand length 15 mm. The tissue was evidently fresh from a viable abortion within hours. FETUS #2: A beheaded male fetus of an estimated 7-8 weeks gestation. The length of the fetus from shoulder to rump is estimated at 2.2 cm... The arms and scapula girdle was traumatically detached and retrieved in a separate piece. Again the tissue is fresh from a viable and very recent abortion." The abortion of Fetus #1 outside a properly licensed facility constituted a felony. Elguindi was prosecuted for this felony. He said that the had once flushed fetal remains, but later conracted with a company to dispose of boxed fetal remains. The scandal cost Elguindi a $10,000 fine by the medical board, along with the loss of his medical license. Former abortion entrepeneur Eric Harrah was fined after a Delaware plumber told investigators that he had installed an "industrial guage" garbage disposal at his Brandywine Valley Women's Center. Employees told investigators that they routinely flushed 8 to 20 week fetuses down the disposal. Health Care Clinic in Saginaw, Michigan, was fined for improper disposal of medical waste, including fetal remains. A woman reported finding open containers labled as containing "products of conception." She saw pieces of feteuses, including a hand and fragments of bone, cartilage, muscle, lung, and liver stuck to the bottom of a container thrown away by the facility in December of 1991. An inspection found that the clinic had a "commercial waste grinder." Robbinsdale Clinic in Minnesota suffered a scandal when the remains of fetuses were found in the dumpster, along with patient billing records identifying patients by name and procedure performed. Abortionist Robert Michael Livingston got in trouble when a restaurant owner called the police in October of 1992 and reported that he'd caught Livingston putting ten fetuses and some bags of medical waste in the restaurant dumpster. Livingston reportedly said restaurant owner was lying: "I wouldn't believe him if his tongue were notarized," and said he was just taking out ordinary trash. Dr. Nareshkumar Gandalal Patel admitted to dumping and attempting to burn at least 60 fetuses described by medical examiner as "in various states of dismemberment...and preservation" in a field. It hardly seems reasonable to think that such a vexing problem turning into a financial windfal would have no impact on abortion lobbying. In fact, it's the only logical explanation for the surprising unity the abortion movement has been demonstrating. For more inside scoop on abortion practices:
