Abortion Horror Stories

A visitor sent me the following email regarding "Dolores" Meets George Tiller:

"I was very annoyed by your story about Dolores C. The story is about a dreadful man who misrepresented himself as a doctor, mistreated his patient and should be thrown out of the medical profession. However, to imply that people who believe that abortion should be kept legal, would naturally support this man is ludicrous. This story is not about whether abortion should be legal, but is about a doctor's malpractice that all people should be appalled at. The reason I am angry is that this type of reporting increases distance between people who have differnt views on a very difficult problem. We will never be able to solve the two opposing viewpoints while we increase distance between them. Who in the world are the doctor's supporters? and why would anyone support him? Your reporting of the incident leaves many questions unanswered. I am concerned that you are leaving out half of the story."

I have no doubt that this letter is heartfelt, and the writer brings up some legitimate concerns. I'll address them to her here, to share with all of you.

The doctor in question, George Tiller, is one of the most highly respected abortion doctors in the country. He has been presented with awards by prochoice organizations including the National Abortion Federation. He is not some fly-by-night quack operating out of a storefront and moving from state to state trying to keep ahead of the authorities. That's what makes Dolores' story so unnerving. That's what makes many abortion horror stories so unnerving -- they can happen in the most respected facilities in the country. I urge you to visit my page on the National Abortion Federation to see exactly what kinds of behavior goes on in these cream-of-the-crop clinics.

I would love to see a movement to clean up the abortion industry. Right now, the only people making any consistent effort are prolifers. The prochoice organizations, such as the National Abortion Federation, fight these efforts tooth and nail and instead harbor and protect practitioners like George Tiller, Steve Brigham, and Steve Lichtenberg. Women pay with their lives. This sad reality will not change until concerned citizens like you start holding prochoice organizations responsible for the practitioners they support.

As abortion supporter Magda Denes said in her book, In Necessity and Sorrow, “Reknown is no guarantee of skill. Skill is no safeguard aginst cruelty. Patients are utterly vulnerable to the mental health of their helpers. The helpers should, therefore, be watched like potential enemies.?lt;/P>
