On September 29, 1923, 18-year-old Mollie Monilson of Chicago died from complications of a criminal abortion. The person or persons responsible for her death were never identified or brought to justice. Keep in mind that things that may seem appalling to us in the early 21st century was not appalling at the time. Things we take for granted, like antibiotics and blood banks, were still in the future.
