"Surely this is an area where we could find common ground -- cracking down on unwanted abortions, where the woman withdraws consent."

On September 2, I had reported that Lawrence, Kansas abortionist Kristin Neuhaus might have to close her abortuary because she is unable to comply with national standards regarding general sedation. On September 12, I provided an update.

Neuhaus' practice was found to have shortcomings in record keeping, handling of syringes, and how staff are trained to handle emergencies.

Neuhaus had aggreed to be subjected to random checks of patient records for three months to ensure that records are reflecting adequate supervision of patients under general sedation.

The new allegation against Neuhaus is that she allegedly performed an abortion against a patient's wishes. Rather than directly address the allegations, news coverage instead started with a pity party for Neuhaus, who lamented that the nasty prolifers always pick on her. But with the allegations raised against her, and the shortcomings verified in her abortion practice already, the real question is why prochoicers aren't hammering her as well.

The Kansas Board of Healing Arts is currently investigating the patient's allegations. The Board also alleges that Neuhaus has not corrected the records-keeping shortcomings that led to her troubles last summer concerning the quality of care she provides during general sedation.

If the Board of Healing Arts verifies the current allegations, Neuhaus could be fined or have her license revoked or suspended. The investigation and any disciplinary action would take place over the next several months.

Neuhaus is one of the few Kansas abortionists who had been planning to sell chemical abortions. Given her history of records-keeping shortcomings, one can only wonder at the quality of care and record-keeping she will provide for RU-486 abortion patients.
